Pisgah Legal Services seeks to pursue justice by providing legal assistance and advocacy to help low-income people in Western North Carolina meet their basic needs and improve their lives.

Pisgah Legal Services is an innovative nonprofit founded in 1978 that:

  • provides free civil legal aid to people who live in poverty;
  • helps more than 25,000 of the most vulnerable people in our communities annually to meet urgent needs such as: housing, safety from abuse, health care and income;
  • partners with dozens of other agencies to make sustainable change for people in crisis;
  • coordinates the services of more than 250 pro bono attorneys in WNC;
  • improves systems and policies that impact the lives of thousands of low-income people.

We employ staff attorneys and work with hundreds of area lawyers who generously volunteer their time and talent to help the people of our mountain region.

Pisgah Legal Services provides a broad array of free, civil legal aid, anti-poverty advocacy and access to health care in 18 counties and the Qualla Boundary in Western North Carolina. Program availability varies by county depending on the availability and scope of funding.

Pisgah Legal has offices in Asheville, Brevard, Burnsville, Cashiers, Franklin, Hendersonville, Highlands, Marshall, Morganton, Newland, Rutherfordton, Spruce Pine and Waynesville.

Disc golf for a cause: Devil’s Foot organizes charity tournament

The 18-hole Grip It and Sip It disc golf competition will be held from 1-5 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 25 at the Asheville Municipal Disc Golf Course. Registration for two-player teams is $40 and includes entry, two custom Devil's Foot driver discs and drink tokens for an afterparty at The Mule.

The Arts Council awarded 24 different grants to Buncombe County alone, totaling $570,922 and supporting everything from the Asheville Art Museum to Claxton Elementary School.
