ASHEVILLE, N.C. (828newsNOW) — The Acting Company, a New York-based and Tony Award-winning theater troupe, will perform productions of “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” and “Great Expectations” next month at the Diana Wortham Theatre in downtown Asheville.

“A Midsummer Night’s Dream” will be staged at 8 p.m., Friday, Jan. 23, while the world premiere of Nikki Massoud’s adaptation of “Great Expectations” will go on at 8 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 24.

Tickets for both shows are available at www.worthamarts.org.

“A Midsummer Night’s Dream”

This production of Shakespeare’s “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” is directed by Risa Brainin and described by artistic director Kent Gash as “the most popular rom-com of all time” in a Wortham press release.

“In this fast-paced, crowd-pleasing comedy, four rebellious teenage lovers flee to an enchanted forest, where a mischievous fairy named Puck creates chaos for mortals and magical beings alike. Bursting with mirth, music, magic and mayhem, this vibrant production promises laughter, romance and Shakespeare’s timeless wit,” Wortham wrote.

Great Expectations”

This world-premiere adaptation of Charles Dickens’ famed novel was written by Nikki Massoud and directed by Devin Brain.

“This world-premiere adaptation reinvigorates Dickens’ classic with the energy of a binge-worthy dramedy. Filled with unexpected hilarity, escaped prisoners, decaying mansions and ruthless ambition, ‘Great Expectations’ follows orphan Pip’s thrilling rise from hardship to high society — exploring themes of integrity, loyalty and love with humor and heart,” Wortham wrote.

“Midsummer” and “Great Expectations” will feature a pre-show discussion with the artist behind the shows.
