ASHEVILLE, N.C. (828newsNOW) — It’s a double celebration in Asheville on Tuesday as locals mark Taco Tuesday and National Taco Day.

National Taco Day is observed on the first Tuesday of October, falling on Oct. 7 this year. While its exact origins are unclear, the day has been celebrated in some form since at least the 1960s. The holiday is largely cultural and promotional, giving restaurants and food chains an opportunity to spotlight their taco offerings.

The most common way to celebrate is by enjoying tacos, whether traditional Mexican-style or inventive American variations. Many restaurants offer deals or free tacos, while others encourage patrons to make tacos at home with fillings ranging from beef, chicken and pork to seafood and vegetarian or vegan options.

Head to your favorite restaurant or check out these Asheville spots that are joining the festivities with special promotions:

  • The Social Asheville: Hosting taco specials and a festive atmosphere from 11 a.m. to 2 a.m.
  • Nachos & Beer: Offering a variety of tacos and extended hours from 11 a.m. to 9:30 p.m.
  • Moe’s Southwest Grill: Nationwide celebration with $2 tacos for members.
  • Chuy’s: $1 tacos, drink specials, and a free entrée for customers in taco-themed costumes.
  • Taco Bell: Promotions include a limited-edition T-shirt giveaway, $1 Cantina Chicken Soft Tacos, $5 off Party Packs via its app, BOGO tacos through DoorDash, and a chance to win a year’s worth of Taco Tuesdays.
  • Chronic Tacos: Buy One, Get One Free deal for loyalty members.
  • Cantina Louie: $2.99 tacos all day.

National Taco Day is less about history and more about fun, food, and creativity — a tasty reason for taco lovers to celebrate.
