SUV crashes off Monte Vista Road; one person taken away in handcuffs

CANDLER, N.C. (828newsNOW) — A single-vehicle crash on Monte Vista Road disrupted traffic in Candler on Sunday morning, closing part of the roadway for more than an hour while emergency crews worked at the scene.

The crash happened around 9:30 a.m. near Bascom Lane when an SUV left the roadway. Emergency responders shut down one lane of traffic as crews worked to remove the driver and recover the vehicle.

A trooper with the North Carolina State Highway Patrol was seen conducting a field sobriety test on a man believed to have been driving the SUV. The man was later placed in handcuffs and taken from the scene.

No information about injuries or charges was immediately available.

Traffic resumed shortly before 11 a.m. as crews cleared the crash site.
