ASHEVILLE, N.C. (828newsNOW) — Western North Carolina residents can expect a stretch of clear, cool weather this week, according to the National Weather Service office in Greenville-Spartanburg.

Light winds and sunny skies Monday will give way to breezier conditions Tuesday as a cold front approaches from the west. Forecasters said dry air and warmer temperatures could lead to “low-end fire weather concerns” Tuesday and Wednesday afternoons before cooler air settles in midweek.

High pressure will keep the region mostly dry through Friday, with rain chances increasing over the weekend as another cold front moves in. Overnight lows will remain below seasonal averages, dipping into the upper 30s and low 40s by midweek, with the possibility of fog in some mountain valleys.

Forecast at a glance:

  • Monday: Sunny, high near 66. Tonight, mostly clear with a low near 41.
  • Tuesday: Sunny and warmer, high near 75, gusts up to 20 mph.
  • Wednesday: Cooler, high near 64, with breezy northwest winds.
  • Thursday: Sunny, high near 66.
  • Friday: Mostly sunny, high near 68.

The weather service said the dry spell should continue at least through Friday before rain chances rise over the weekend.
