Pedestrian killed in Airport Road crash, APD investigating

ASHEVILLE, N.C. (828newsNOW) — The Asheville Police Department is investigating a fatal South Asheville motor vehicle collision which resulted in the death of Andrew Robert Angstead, 31, a pedestrian.

APD officers responded to reports of a collision around 8:41 p.m., Friday, April 3 on the 70 block of Airport Road. The preliminary investigation indicated that Angstead was struck by an eastbound 2024 Kia Sportage as he attempted to cross the street.

Angstead was taken to Mission Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries on Saturday, April 4. Next of kin has been notified.

The driver of the Kia remained at the scene during the incident, which remains under investigation. Charges are pending until the investigation is completed and APD officers have consulted with the Buncombe County District Attorney’s Office.
