Pair arrested after complaints of drug trafficking at hotel

ASHEVILLE, N.C. (828newsNOW) —

Two people have been arrested in a case involving accusations of drug trafficking at an east Asheville hotel.

Brandi Yanette Haynes, 53, and Christopher Quamanie Hammett, 33, were arrested Monday, July 1, after what police called a lengthy investigation into complaints of drug trafficking at a hotel near the 140 block of Tunnel Road. The two were charged as co-conspirators in drug trafficking, a news release from Asheville Police Department said.

During the arrest, police found a concealed gun and a trafficking amount of drugs on Haynes, the news release said. Hammett was also found to be in possession of drugs.

Brandi Yanette Haynes, 53, faces numerous felony drug charges after an investigation into complaints of trafficking at a hotel on Tunnel Road.

Haynes was charged with:

  • Felony trafficking in methamphetamine by possession
  • Felony possession with intent to sell or deliver Schedule II
  • Felony possession with intent to sell or deliver Schedule VI
  • Felony possession of Schedule II
  • Felony maintain a dwelling for controlled substances
  • Carrying a concealed gun
  • Possession of drug paraphernalia

Haynes was booked into the Buncombe County Detention Facility under no bond (ineligible for release) by the magistrate because of the Pretrial Integrity Act.

Christopher Quamanie Hammett, 33, faces drug and resisting charges after an investigation into complaints of trafficking at a hotel on Tunnel Road.

Hammett was charged with:

  • 2 counts of possession with intent to sell or deliver Schedule II
  • Felony possess Schedule II
  • Resist, delay or obstruct

Hammett was booked into the Buncombe County Detention Facility under a $50,000 secured bond.

Police seized:

  • KelTec pistol
  • 148.34g of meth
  • 13g of crack cocaine
  • 2.5g of fentanyl
