ASHEVILLE, N.C. (828newsNOW) — Drivers along Interstate 26 should prepare for several overnight closures in the coming days as crews conduct maintenance work between Exits 31 and 37, the Asheville Fire Department announced.

Starting Sunday, Oct. 26, through Thursday, Oct. 30, eastbound and westbound lanes of I-26 will be completely closed nightly from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. Start times may vary depending on traffic volumes, and schedules could change because of weather conditions.

Eastbound closures will affect the stretch between Exits 33 and 37, while westbound closures will extend from Exits 37 to 31.

During the closures, detours will be in place:

Eastbound detour: From Exit 33 (Brevard Road), take NC 191 South to NC 146 (Long Shoals Road) and rejoin I-26 at Exit 40.

Westbound detour: From Exit 37 (Long Shoals Road), take NC 146 East to U.S. 25 North (Hendersonville Road) and continue to I-40.

Motorists are advised to plan ahead, expect delays and use caution when traveling in the area.
