No charges filed after fatal crash on Hendersonville Road in Asheville

ASHEVILLE, N.C. (828newsNOW) — The Asheville Police Department announced that no charges will be filed following an investigation into a fatal South Asheville car crash.

APD officers responded to reports of a crash around 3:37 p.m. on Tuesday, May 26 at the 2160 block of Hendersonville Road. According to investigators, a man named Peter Tracy Gillette, 81, was traveling southbound on Hendersonville Road in his 2018 Subaru when he experienced a medical emergency. Gillette’s vehicle rolled through a red traffic light, where it collided with a 2014 Nissan attempting to turn left through a green traffic light.

Occupants of the Nissan were taken to Mission Hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries. An unconscious Gillette was also taken to Mission, where he succumbed to his injuries on Friday, May 29. Next of kin has been notified.
