Minor earthquake reported near Marion

MARION, N.C. (828newsNOW) — A minor earthquake was recorded early Friday morning near Marion, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

The 2.1 magnitude quake occurred at 6:35 a.m., about 2.3 miles west-northwest of Marion, the USGS reported.

There have been no reports of damage or injuries.

Small earthquakes are not uncommon in Western North Carolina, though most are too weak to be felt by residents.
