Man charged in downtown Asheville knife attack

ASHEVILLE, N.C. (828newsNOW) — Asheville police arrested a man Tuesday after a stabbing at a downtown residence.

Officers responded around 3:08 a.m. to a report of a man stabbed at a home on Atkinson Street. When they arrived, the suspect had fled. The victim suffered a serious knife wound to the arm and was taken to Mission Hospital for treatment.

Police quickly identified the suspect as Harold Dudley Ervin, 59, and found him on the front porch of a nearby home. He was taken into custody without incident and charged with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill, going armed to the terror of people and second-degree trespass.

Ervin was booked into the Buncombe County Detention Facility under the Pretrial Integrity Act and is ineligible for bond.
