ASHEVILLE, N.C. (828newsNOW) — Work continues on the I-26 Connector project in Asheville, although there are no major changes to report this week, according to the N.C. Department of Transportation.

Crews are continuing work in previously established construction areas.

On I-26 West, traffic has shifted to the left between Hill Street and Broadway Street as crews continue paving in the area.

The Westgate flyover closure remains in place, with drivers following a signed detour.

Westgate flyover detour reminder: NCDOT advises eastbound drivers who normally use the ramp to access Westgate Parkway to take the marked detour. Drivers should take I-240 West/I-26 East to the Haywood Road exit. From there, cross over the interstate to merge onto I-240 East/I-26 West and take Exit 3B to Westgate Parkway.

The overall project schedule remains unchanged, with completion expected in late 2031.

NCDOT said it will provide additional updates as significant construction milestones or traffic changes occur.
