ASHEVILLE, N.C. (828newsNOW) — Drivers traveling through Asheville this week can expect overnight lane closures on Interstate 240 and the Patton Avenue frontage road as work continues on the Interstate 26 Connector project.

The latest construction update includes four nights of work along the Patton Avenue frontage road, an overnight closure on I-240 and daytime traffic impacts on Riverside Drive.

Here’s what drivers need to know:

Tuesday, Oct. 27, through Friday, Oct. 30: The right lane of the Patton Avenue frontage road will be closed between Cliff Street and the Sam’s Club gas station entrance from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. each night. Crews will remove curbing and pave the frontage road.

Thursday, Oct. 29: The right lane of I-240 westbound/I-26 eastbound will be closed between Exit 2 and Exit 3A from 9 p.m. Thursday until 6 a.m. Friday.

Friday, Oct. 30: Drivers can expect daytime flagging on Riverside Drive as crews perform work related to a jack-and-bore operation, a method of installing underground pipes or utilities without digging up the entire roadway. Specific hours and the location of the flagging were not provided.

No overnight work is scheduled for Monday, Oct. 26.

The closures are part of the ongoing I-26 Connector project, which is designed to improve highway connections and traffic flow through Asheville.

Drivers are urged to slow down, stay alert and use caution in construction zones.

All scheduled work is weather-dependent and subject to change.
