Cyclist killed in hit-and-run on Swannanoa River Road

ASHEVILLE, N.C. (828newsNOW) — A cyclist was killed in a hit-and-run Thursday morning on Swannanoa River Road, and Asheville police are searching for a white box truck believed to have been involved.

The crash happened about 11:42 a.m. on Swannanoa River Road near South Tunnel Road, Asheville police said.

“Witnesses state that a white box truck collided with the (cyclist), left the area and headed west toward Biltmore Avenue,” Asheville Police Department spokesperson Rick Rice said. ” Officers are attempting to locate the vehicle.”

The victim, who has not been identified pending notification of family, died at the scene, Rice said.
