CHIMNEY ROCK, N.C. (828newsNOW) — Visitors planning a trip to Chimney Rock State Park this week may want to make other plans.

Park officials announced that Chimney Rock at Chimney Rock State Park will be closed through June 5 because of a small landslide along the park’s main access road.

The landslide was caused by recent rainfall, according to a notice posted by park officials. Crews will use the closure period to complete repairs to the roadway.

The closure affects only access to the Chimney Rock section of the park. The Rumbling Bald Access area will remain open to visitors during the repair work.

Officials said they will continue to provide updates on the park’s reopening status through the park’s website and social media channels.

Visitors are encouraged to check for updates before traveling to the park.

Park officials thanked the public for its patience and cooperation and said they look forward to welcoming visitors back to the trails once repairs are complete.
