BUNCOMBE COUNTY, N.C. (828newsNOW) — A Buncombe County sheriff’s deputy was taken to the hospital Sunday night after his patrol vehicle was rear-ended while he was helping protect construction workers on Interstate 26.

Deputy Jason Scott was working a secondary assignment for a construction company on I-26 West near Airport Road when the crash happened shortly after 8 p.m. Oct. 18, according to the Buncombe County Sheriff’s Office.

Scott was participating in a rolling roadblock to protect construction crews when another vehicle struck his patrol vehicle from behind. The sheriff’s office said the other vehicle was reportedly traveling at a high rate of speed.

Scott was taken to Mission Hospital for evaluation. The occupants of the other vehicle were also taken to the hospital.

No one was seriously injured, according to the sheriff’s office.

The North Carolina State Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.
