Backpack giveaway aims to equip Asheville area kids for school

ASHEVILLE, N.C. (828newsNOW) — John McClung Roofing will host its annual Backpack Giveaway on Aug. 16, aiming to provide 1,000 backpacks filled with school supplies to children in Western North Carolina.

The free event will take place from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Edington Center, 133 Livingston St., Asheville.

The company partners with local organizations and businesses to distribute the backpacks ahead of the upcoming school year. Sponsors include Best Buy Metals, ABC Supply, Shared Vision International, Walmart and Sam’s Club, New York Life agent Joshua Brown, Self-Help Credit Union, Board & Brush Asheville, Hope City Fellowship, Born to Bend Mental Health and Wellness and the Family Support Network of WNC.
