WOODFIN, N.C. (828newsNOW) — Following a stand-out production of “Miss Julie” earlier this September, local thespian troupe Attic Salt Theatre Company will bring the satirical comedy “The Thanksgiving Play” to their stage this November.

“The Thanksgiving Play,” written by Lakota playwright Larissa FastHorse, follows the efforts of a group of white teachers to craft a politically-correct Thanksgiving play for their students. The plan quickly goes awry, resulting in a sharp, funny satire of past representation of Native Americans and the tradition of Thanksgiving at large.

The show will run at 7:30 p.m. on Friday and Saturday and 2:30 p.m. on Sunday from Nov. 7-23 at Attic Salt Theatre Arts Space, 2002 Riverside Dr.

Tickets are $20 and can be purchased here.

What Attic Salt has to say about “The Thanksgiving Play”

“The Thanksgiving Play” will be directed by frequent Attic Salt collaborator Gabby Bailey, stage managed by Mikhale Sherrill and performed by Christy Montesdeoca as Logan, Jon Stockdale as Jaxton, Alan Steele as Caden, and newcomer Emily Greene as Alicia.

According to an Attic Salt press release, Gabby Bailey, an Indigenous person herself, loved the play from her first read.

When I go about my day-to-day life and people figure out that I am native, the things they say can almost be guaranteed to come from a short list of misguided responses. It was wonderfully funny to read the ridiculous questions and comments that I get regularly put onto the page in a way I hadn’t seen before,” Bailey said in the release. “I’m excited to showcase to the public an experience that feels very niche, yet in a hilarious and absurd way.”
