Asheville 19-year-old arrested on 25 felony counts in major fraud bust

ASHEVILLE, N.C. (828newsNOW) — Masieuh Dewayne Morgan, 19, was arrested by the Asheville Police Department around 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 3 off of Long Shoals Road. Morgan was arrested on the basis of 25 open felony warrants, many of which involve fraud.

According to an APD press release, Morgan was found to have a stolen firearm in his possession during his arrest, resulting in an additional charge.

Charges

  • One felony count of possessing stolen firearm
  • Eight felony counts of obtain property false pretense
  • Five felony counts of accessing computers
  • Five felony counts of conspiracy
  • Two felony counts of fraud – free text
  • Three felony counts of uttering forged endorsement
  • One felony fount of uttering forged instrument
  • One felony count of forgery of instrument
  • Three counts of driving while license revoked

Morgan was booked into the Buncombe County Detention Center under a $362,500 secured bond issued by a magistrate.

The massive amount of felonies Morgan is charged with are the result of several different types of fraud, explained APD Public Information Officer Rick Rice.

“It’s super complicated,” Rice said. “There was just a whole lot of different fraud going on.”
