ASHEVILLE, N.C. (828newsNOW) — Asheville’s bus service received a $1.3 million boost Tuesday when Buncombe County commissioners approved shifting funds to the city’s transit system.

The $1.3 million was Federal Transit Administration funding the county would not have been able to spend before the expenditure deadline.

ART (Asheville Rides Transit) provides bus service throughout the city of Asheville and to Black Mountain from about 5:30 a.m. until 10:30 p.m. Monday through Saturday and from 8 a.m. until 6 p.m. on Sundays and holidays.

COMMISSIONERS MAY SHIFT TRANSIT FUNDS TO CITY

All routes originate from the ART Transit Station at 49 Coxe Ave. in downtown Asheville (next to the U.S. Post Office). There are restrooms, indoor and outdoor seating and an on-duty information assistant until 9:30 p.m. at the station. The assistant can provide riders with the latest maps and schedules; help people purchase single, monthly or annual passes; and answer questions about riding the bus in Asheville.
