APD arrest gun-wielding juvenile after kid fled on bike

ASHEVILLE, N.C. (828newsNOW) — The Asheville Police Department has apprehended a juvenile who discharged a gun and damaged a vehicle on Friday afternoon before fleeing on a bicycle.

Around 4:55 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 15, APD officers responded to a report of a gun discharge on Roberts Street in West Asheville.

According to the victim, the shot was fired at their vehicle after turning onto Roberts Street from Haywood Road. Both the victim and a witness were able to give a description of the assailant, a juvenile, and the bicycle they used to flee the scene.

Further investigation led officers to the bicycle and the suspect at a nearby residence, where they were taken into custody without incident.

Thankfully, no one was injured and only property damage has been reported,” wrote APD Public Information Officer Rick Rice in a press release.

APD is working with the Department of Juvenile Justice in investigating this matter.
