ASHEVILLE, N.C. (828newsNOW) — No yard? No problem. A new guide from 828newsNOW shows how Asheville and Western North Carolina residents can garden in small or unconventional spaces.

The “Garden Anywhere” guide provides tips for container gardening, raised beds, balcony planting and other space-saving methods suited to the region’s terrain and climate.

The guide is built with local challenges in mind, such as steep landscapes, limited yard space and varying elevation levels across the mountains. It focuses on USDA Zone 7 growing conditions, which shape planting timelines and seasonal expectations for gardeners in Asheville and surrounding communities.

The goal is to make gardening more accessible, whether someone is working with a full yard or a small apartment balcony.

The launch comes as interest in gardening continues to grow, particularly among renters and residents with limited outdoor space. The guide includes a quick-start section and recommendations for what crops grow best in containers in Western North Carolina’s climate.

“Garden Anywhere” is the first in a series of planned gardening resources. The full guide is available here or through 828newsNOW’s Asheville Guides hub.
