CANTON, N.C. (828newsNOW) — Nighttime closures are planned this week on Champion Drive (NC 215) in Canton to allow for bridge demolition work at Interstate 40, the North Carolina Department of Transportation said.

The closures will begin Monday, Dec. 1, and occur nightly from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m.

Westbound I-40 travelers will still be able to exit but will be limited to a right turn onto Buckeye Cove Road. Eastbound I-40 travelers can exit and make a right turn onto Champion Drive. The section of Champion Drive directly under the I-40 bridge is expected to experience the heaviest impact.

NCDOT asked drivers for patience while crews complete the project.
