ASHEVILLE, N.C. (828newsNOW) — Asheville police have arrested a 22-year-old man in connection with a shooting early Sunday that left one man dead.

Officers were called to the 200 block of Amboy Road around 7:36 a.m. after receiving a report of a gunshot wound. When they arrived, they found Antonio Tremaine Carson Jr., 19, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Carson died from his injuries, police said.

Detectives used automatic license plate reader data, surveillance video and physical evidence collected at the scene to lay out a timeline of events. Investigators presented their findings to the district attorney’s office, which approved charges.

Police arrested the initial 911 caller, Hayden Rays Shores, and charged him with first-degree murder and discharging a firearm within city limits. Shores was booked into the Buncombe County Detention Center without bond.

The investigation remains active. Anyone with information is asked to contact Asheville police at 828-252-1110, or submit anonymous tips by texting TIP2APD to 847411 or using the TIP2APD app.
